Dean Farm Trust

United Kingdom200 animals

Story

Dean Farm Trust began in May 2013 as a small rescue in founder Mary Frankland’s garden. In December 2016 it opened its sanctuary at Shirenewton, near Chepstow in South Wales, where it now provides a home for life to around 200 animals.

Residents include pigs, cows, sheep, goats, donkeys, ponies, rabbits and more than 100 hens, many rescued from neglect, abandonment or farming. Some, such as Billy, a blind pig saved from extreme neglect, need ongoing medical care.

Its visitor rules put the animals first. Guests at open afternoons and guided visits are asked not to touch or feed the residents or enter their paddocks.

Know a sanctuary we should feature?

World Sanctuaries is a growing directory of places providing refuge and lifelong care to animals. If you know a sanctuary that belongs here, we’d love to hear about it.
